Chelsea's miserable away form continued as they lost again at Charlton.
Their fellow London side went into the game unbeaten at the Valley and
that record was to remain intact after another mixed Blues performance.
Charlton had two excellent early chances both well saved by De goey before
they managed to create anything themselves. Morris and Zola both had efforts
that clipped the woodwork as it seemed the Blues might take a grip of the
game. Yet it was Charlton who broke the deadlock with Johannson stretching
to poke the ball home 10 minutes before half time.
The second half saw Chelsea bring on Flo and Gudjohnsen to try and turn
things around but the blues failed to get their passing going and the equalizer
wouldn't come.
On the stroke
of full time Charlton made it 2-0 when a corner was headed in past De Goey
to complete another Blue day.
Chelsea's away form is now becoming a serious concern and appears to have
spoilt the high hopes at the start of this season. It's increasingly looking
like this year will have to become a rebuilding and consolidating season
with longer term advancement the aim.
With an away trip to Everton who beat Arsenal today next on the agenda
things don't look like getting any easier yet.
